KOICA TO INCREASE IMPLEMENTATION OF DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

Secretary General Ministry of Finance Dr natu El-Maamry Mwamba, said the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), through a program signed in 2014, has provided a total grant of 139.5 million US Dollars equal to Sh. 356.3 billion for Tanzania to implement various development projects.

 

Dr. Mwamba noted this in Dodoma when he met and held talks with the Vice President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) who deals with strategic matters (KOICA) Don Ho Kim, who is on a business visit to Tanzania.

He said that through these funds, several projects have been completed and others are ongoing, which include the Health Sector Fund and the Integrated Program for Out-of-School Youth (IPOSA).

 

Several projects are in various stages of preparation, including establishing water supply systems for urban and rural areas in Dodoma and improving gender equality in Education (STEM) for Secondary Schools in the country where these projects are currently undergoing processes ofbe approved within the relevant Ministry'' said Dr.rock

He said that since 1991, KOICA has helped the Government especially in the fields of health, education, water and transport to change the social and economic situation in the country.


Dr. mwamba said that through various funding programs, technical assistance and capacity building programs, KOICA has stimulated positive changes that have helped inclusive growth and prosperity, fight poverty and promote the economy.

 

He also explained that in August 2023, the Ministry of Finance submitted a request for four development projects with the help of KOICA for a total of 39 million US Dollars, equivalent to Sh. 98 billion, expected to be implemented from 2025.


Dr. mwamba identified the projects as a project to establish a technical college in Morogoro, a project to strengthen mother and child services in Dar es Salaam, a project to establish water supply systems in rural areas of the coastal region and a project to establish an ambitious national program of highways and human resource capacity building.
